We welcome anyone who could benefit from physiotherapy, whether or not you have private insurance. We see people with everyday aches and pains, sports and activity-related injuries, workplace injuries, and motor vehicle accidents.
We can direct bill many insurance plans (including providers available through Telus eClaims such as Sun Life and Medavie Blue Cross). If you’re unsure about your coverage, contact our admin team and we’ll help you figure out your options.
Yes. You can schedule most visits through our secure online booking system at any time of day. When you choose an appointment time, please take a moment to review our cancellation and no-show policy, as late changes may be subject to a fee.
No. In Newfoundland & Labrador, you can book directly with a physiotherapist without a doctor’s referral. However, some insurance companies still require a prescription in order to reimburse your treatments, so it’s a good idea to check your benefits booklet or call your provider.
During your assessment we screen for more serious medical issues. If anything suggests that you need further medical testing or imaging, we’ll discuss this with you and, when appropriate, recommend follow-up with your physician.
No. Because we are a private clinic, MCP does not usually fund these appointments. In some situations you may qualify for publicly funded physiotherapy through a hospital-based program. For more information about those services, please contact your local hospital or speak with your doctor.
Physiotherapy is covered by many private and workplace insurance plans. We can submit claims directly to several insurers once we have your policy and ID numbers. Depending on your coverage, you may only pay a small co-pay or nothing at all at the time of your visit.
If your injury is related to a workplace accident, WorkplaceNL may cover your sessions once your claim is accepted. For motor vehicle accidents, treatment is often funded by your auto insurer after any available private health coverage has been used. Because each plan is different, please contact your insurance company or our front desk with specific questions.
Yes. Physiotherapy provided by a licensed physiotherapist is considered a medical expense for income tax purposes. We will give you detailed receipts so that any portion not reimbursed by insurance can be claimed when you file your taxes.
In most cases, each visit is focused on one primary area or injury (with some exceptions for WorkplaceNL and motor vehicle claims). This allows enough time to properly assess and treat that region so you receive high-quality, focused care.
When you book, please let us know which problem you want us to work on so it can be documented and billed correctly. Keep in mind that pain can sometimes be felt in a different area than where it starts (for example, a neck issue can create shoulder or arm pain), which is why a thorough assessment is so important.
Your first appointment includes both a conversation and a physical assessment. We’ll talk about your symptoms, health history, daily activities and goals to make sure physiotherapy is appropriate and safe for you.
Then we’ll guide you through specific movements, positions and tests to understand what is contributing to your pain or limitations. Once we have a good picture of what is going on, we’ll explain the diagnosis in clear language and outline a treatment plan. In some cases we may give you a simple exercise to try at home for a few days to help confirm how your body responds.
Initial assessments are usually booked for about 60 minutes so we have enough time to listen to your story, complete a detailed examination, and start treatment. We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early to complete forms and provide any insurance information for direct billing.
Follow-up visits are generally 20–30 minutes, depending on how you are doing and what we are treating. Some specialty services—such as vestibular or concussion care—may require longer sessions. Our admin team can let you know the length of your appointment when you book.
All of your one-on-one sessions are provided by a licensed physiotherapist. We do not double-book or move between several patients at the same time, so you have your therapist’s full attention during each visit.
Please wear or bring comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated. For example, shorts are ideal for hip, knee or ankle problems, and a loose T-shirt, tank top or sports bra works well for neck and shoulder issues. Try to avoid stiff clothing such as jeans. If we are assessing your feet, bring the shoes you usually wear when you experience symptoms.
Right now our focus is on in-clinic, hands-on care. We are exploring options for secure video physiotherapy appointments in the future. If and when virtual visits become available, we will update this page and our online booking system. You can also contact us to ask about current options.
